Closed beta · invite-only

A finance app
that's on your side.

Buckeroo is an AI financial coach for Australians. Plain answers about your money - no lectures, no upsells, no credit-card ads.

We're rolling people in slowly. You'll get a confirmation from onthedot.dev- that's us during the beta.

What I'm building.

Not a roadmap pitch. These are the four things in the app today - and one that's next.

A coach you can actually talk to

Sam is a chat-based financial coach that knows your real spending, your envelopes, and your goals. Ask “how am I tracking this month?” or “help me build a budget from my pay” - get a real answer, not a chart.

Every suggestion needs your approval before it changes anything.

Envelope budgeting

Allocate your pay to envelopes - groceries, rent, savings, whatever matters. Spend from one, see exactly what's left in the others.

Open banking, no scraping

Connect your Australian bank via Basiq under the CDR. Read-only, bank-grade auth, no password sharing. Transactions sync automatically.

Coming next

Net worth & monthly insights

A monthly story of your money: where it went, what got cheaper or more expensive, which subscriptions are creeping up, how your net worth is trending. Generated once a month - not a dashboard you have to interpret yourself.

How it works.

Three steps from invite to your first budget.

01

Connect a bank

Link your Australian bank via Basiq's CDR-licensed open-banking flow. Read-only access, no password sharing.

02

Set up envelopes

Allocate your pay across budget envelopes - or ask Sam to draft a plan from your last few months of spending.

03

Talk to Sam

Ask Sam anything about your money. Every change Sam suggests waits for your approval before it lands.

Why I'm building this

Every finance app I've used either lectures me or tries to sell me a credit card.

The free ones bury you in ads for products that pay them commissions. The paid ones treat budgeting like punishment - tracking every coffee like you're on probation.

Buckeroo is what I wish existed: a coach that knows your real numbers, talks like a person, and doesn't have a side hustle selling you stuff. Read-only access. No affiliate links. Your data isn't the product.

We're in closed beta with a small group of testers before going public. If that sounds like something you want, the waitlist is open.

Read-only access

We can see your transactions. We can't move your money.

CDR-licensed

Bank connections via Basiq, Australia's open-banking platform.

Made in Australia

Built for AUD, AU banks, AU tax brackets. Not retrofitted from US software.

Honest answers.

When are you launching publicly?
Late 2026. The closed beta runs until the core product feels genuinely good - connect a bank, set up envelopes, have a useful conversation with Sam, and see a monthly narrative of where your money went.

No firm date because rushing this is worse than waiting. You'll get an email when the public launch is real.
How do I get an invite?
Join the waitlist with your email. Invites go out in small batches: family and friends first, then waitlist signups in roughly the order you joined.

Each batch is small on purpose - somewhere around 5 to 10 people - so we can actually read every piece of feedback and fix the thing it points at before opening the next batch.
Will it cost money?
There'll be a free tier and a paid tier. Free covers the basics - envelope budgeting, bank sync, a capped number of chats with Sam per day. Paid unlocks unlimited chat, the monthly insights narrative, and richer analysis.

Pricing isn't finalised, and won't be until launch. Closed-beta testers get early-bird pricing locked in when paid plans go live.
Is my data safe?
Bank connections go through Basiq, Australia's licensed open-banking provider, under the Consumer Data Right. You authorise read-only access through your bank's own login flow - Buckeroo never sees your password and can never move money.

Your data is stored in Australian-region Supabase. We don't sell it, don't share it with advertisers, and don't use it to recommend financial products that pay us commissions. You can disconnect a bank or delete your account at any time.
What does the AI coach actually do?
Sam reads your real transactions, envelopes, and goals, then has a conversation with you about them. Ask “am I overspending on food this month?”, “help me build a budget from my last pay”, or “move $200 from holidays to rent” - Sam answers with your actual numbers, not generic advice.

Anything that changes your data - creating an envelope, moving money between budgets, assigning a transaction - is suggested, not done. You approve every change before it lands.
Australia only?
Yes, for now. Open banking, tax brackets, super, bank lists, transaction format quirks - all of it is AU -specific, and we'd rather get one country right than half-build for many.

Other countries are on the table after public launch but not soon.
What if I already use YNAB / Pocketbook / Frollo?
Buckeroo will support importing YNAB CSV exports so you can keep your envelope history when you switch. Pocketbook shut down in 2024 and Frollo's consumer app is winding down - the closest active alternatives are imported budget apps from the US that don't know about CDR or Australian banks.

Buckeroo is built for AU first and treats the AI coach as the main interface, not a chart-stuffed dashboard.
Why does the email come from onthedot.dev?
During closed beta we're sending from an existing verified domain (onthedot.dev) so we can ship without waiting on DNS for a brand-new sender reputation.

It's us. Replies go to a real person. We'll switch to a @buckeroo.com.au sender at public launch.

Want in?

The waitlist is the only way in during closed beta. We'll email you when an invite is ready.
